|A Slice of Jazz is a mixed choir of students in grades 10-12 and performs at school and community events throughout the school year. Auditions for A Slice of Jazz are held in the spring. A select ensemble, Slice can usually be found singing with their outstanding rhythm section or with Washington’s Revolutionists jazz band on special occasions. Slice regularly performs at school and community events in addition to educational jazz festivals and workshops. Recently, Slice had the pleasure of working with Phil Mattson, Richard and Melody Chitty, Five By Design and The New York Voices. Recent Slice highlights include top two finishes at The Iowa Jazz Choir Championships each of the last four years, first place in 2008 and 2010, and being featured on the CD Best of High School A Cappella. The recent Slice season culminated with a performance at the national convention of the American Choral Director’s Association in Chicago, where Slice was one of only two high school jazz choirs from the nation featured on the program.
